Historical Map: 1967 San Francisco Muni Fast Transit Program
I’m at any time so a bit in like with this basic little map demonstrating proposed swift transit lines in San Francisco. There’s some attractive texture for the parkland, a awesome vignetted result for the coastline, and some terrific mid-century typography as perfectly – all somewhat delightful!
There’s a terrific data hierarchy as perfectly, with buses becoming thin gentle blue lines, then trolley buses a bit thicker brown lines. Cable vehicles are proven by thin black lines that still surface visually more robust than trolley buses, and the proposed lines are unmissable thick black lines with stations plainly proven.
There’s even a attractive little compass rose – it’s just a shame that this fold-out map was not opened fully prior to becoming scanned, as a massive segment is concealed from see in the centre of the map.
Our ranking: A terrific instance of a map performing sterling function with a judicious use of just a few colours, merged with a excellent data hierarchy. 4 stars!
