Canada, Mexico could save NAFTA from Donald Trump

Cross-border sweet converse could save NAFTA.

Govt officers and trade groups in Canada and Mexico hope US governors and mayors can thwart President Trump’s vow to unravel the free-trade pact.

Canadian Primary Minister Justin Trudeau instructed the National Governors Association conference in Rhode Island on Friday that “NAFTA isn’t perfect” — but should really be “updated and modernized” — not tossed.

Mexico Town Mayor Miguel Ángel Mancera also attended the conference.

The US, Canada and Mexico will begin renegotiating the pact in August.
