Wymer’s D.C. – The Map Space

Wymer’s D.C. is an on line collection of the hand-drawn maps, notes and (specifically) photos of John P. Wymer (1904-1995), who in a four-year period of time among 1948 and 1952 systematically photographed and documented the streets of Washington, D.C., getting thousands of shots and drawing and describing the city, which he divided into 57 equal sections. The shots are shown via an interactive map that overlays them in excess of modern-day Google Street Look at imagery. The internet site is the brainchild of Jessica Richardson Smith, who as an intern stumbled throughout the Wymer collection in the holdings of the Historical Culture of Washington, D.C. as an intern and manufactured the on line collection aspect of her M.A. thesis operate, and her spouse, software engineer Thomas Smith.
